Virgin Launches 3g Handset

Virgin Mobile USA fanatics can soon get their hands on a Virgin 3G headset soon as the carrier announced  that they will soon release their first 3g phone.  The new phone, dubbed Shuttle, will have the Helo’s service integrated into it.

The phone comes equipped with a 1.3 megapixel camera, Bluetooth, 2-inch screen, memory card slot, and streaming music capability. It runs under Sprint’s physical EVDO 3G network, which Virgin Mobile will resell under its own brand.

“Buddy Beacon” will be bundled with Shuttle.   Buddy Beacon is a GPS-based friend-finder application from Helio. Virgin Mobile sees this new arrangement as a value added plus for their consumers.

Helio was once a separate carrier that offered advance high-end phones that were designed primarily for the use of web browsing and network applications.  However, in June 2007, Virgin Mobile acquired Helio for $39 million.

According to Virgin Mobile,  Shuttle will have improved access to social networking sites and other mobile sites through partnerships with Facebook, Myspace, Accuweather, ESPN, Yahoo!, and among others.

Yahoo will be opening up Buzz submissions to the public on Monday. This will allow users from all over the world the ability to submit content to the aggregator.

Before now, Yahoo Buzz has been its beta phase. A Yahoo spokesperson has said their ultimate goal has always been to open the tool to everyone. Up until now, all content on Yahoo Buzz has been delivered by approximately 400 web publishers.

Yahoo Buzz seems to be capturing an audience. The social media website surpassed Digg’s traffic and unique users in the month of April. Additionally, Drive through traffic and content links posted on Buzz pagesalso increased according to industry experts.

Yahoo Buzz is actually quite similiar to Digg. The main difference is that Yahoo Buzz uses a unique algorithm aside from user votes in determining which story appears on page one.

Yahoo homepage will contain a link to the top story on the social bookmarking site; which should help Yahoo Buzz to continue to grow. You can visit Yahoo Buzz by going here.

1. System Start-up packed with too many applications (Start-up overload)

As you continue to add applications to your computer, many of these applications are setup to automatically load when Windows boots up. Additionally, these applications can add themselves to a hidden area of your Windows Operating system; the registry. In extreme cases, this can cause your computer to practically freeze.

Limiting the number of applications loading themselves at start-up frees up memory, which can speed up your computer considerably and increase overall system performance.

2. Spyware

Malicious applications that bury themselves into your Windows registry and core file system can cause a lot of computer issues, especially a slow computer.

These programs are usually installed unintentionally and without permission of the user. Spyware can cause a variety of issues such as security breaches, but are most notably known for the ability to slowdown your computer when surfing the web. e spyware programs must be removed as soon as possible to return your PC to top running speed, and before they damage your file system.

In some cases they can be removed by manually editing the Windows core file system and registry, or by be automatically removed using a spyware remover program such as XoftspySE, our recommended pick for spyware removal and cleaning.

3. Bloated and Corrupted Windows Registry

The Windows registry is like the gatekeeper of your operating system. Corruption or a registry overload can result in a variety of pc performance problems, including poor application startup times, slow Windows start and shut down, and inability to resume from computer hibernation/sleep mode.

Cleansing, optimizing, and compacting your Windows registry can drastically improve your computer’s performance by fixing a variety of issues.

4. Hard Drive Fragmentation

The fourth most common reason for a slow PC is a fragmented hard drive and file system. Over time, as you install, delete, and move files around your hard drive, you computer’s hard drive slowly degrades and becomes fragmented. This causes files to become scattered into bits and pieces all over your computer’s hard drive. Windows has a built in tool to help you with hard drive defragmentation. To access this tool, follow the steps below:

  1. Open My Computer
  2. Right-click on your C: Drive icon and go down to the “Properties” menu item
  3. From the tabs, select the “Tools” tab and choose the “Defragment Now” option and follow the step by step instructions.

5. Remnants of uninstalled programs

Even if you uninstall applications properly, sometimes remnants of the uninstalled program are left behind. These remnants occasionally can affect the speed of your computer. Not surprisingly, these remnants are left to disrupt and waste space inside your Windows registry. This residue of old program registry entries sit their clogging up your PC’s core.

6. Insufficient RAM

It’s very typical for your computer to not have enough short term memory (known as RAM) to process all of the applications you’d like to run simultaneously on your computer. The only way to increase your RAM is to buy more of it since it is hardware. Unfortunately, RAM is one of the most expensive ways to increase your PC’s performance as it can easily run you over $100.

7. Hard Drive full with windows and internet temp files

If your hard drive has less than 5% of free space, there’s a strong chance your computer will perform at a dramatically slower speed. To fix this, free up some space by removing old documents you no longer use or programs that are no longer needed.

Additionally, your web browser temporary files can be freed up instantly using Paretologic Privacy Controls. Paretologic Privacy Controls will help erase and clean unwanted temporary files and help erase additional files as well.

Having a slow computer can be really annoying, not to mention unproductive.  I can’t tell you how many times I’ve wanted to throw my Dell Laptop into the wall in the past.  Luckily, I learned tips and tricks (which I’m going to disclose) that helped my computer perform better, and I didn’t ever end up putting a whole in the wall out of frustration.  Below, are the 7 ways you can optimize your Windows Vista and Windows XP.

1. Disable File Indexing

Windows has an indexing service that gets info from files on the hard drive and creates a “searchable keyword index.”  If you don’t use the XP search feature often to look for documents, you can turn this feature off, and the difference you’ll notice is a slight increase in the time it takes for your computer to find a file, but an overall increase in general speed for everything else.  To turn this off follow these instructions:

From My Computer > right-click on the C: Drive > select Properties.  Uncheck “Allow Indexing Service to index this disk for fast file searching.” Apply changes to “C: sub folders and files,” and click OK.

2. Clean Up your registry, temp files, and cache files

Over time, your Windows Registry, a directory that stores setting and options, gets cluttered with  useless information.  This information can load hidden applications that run in the background while Windows is running.  This has the ability to drastically slowdown your computer.

Additionally, Windows stores a lot of temporary files that can be safely cleaned out once a month or so. This is also good to do before running virus or spyware scans as it clears many things out of your system that would need to be scanned.

Best way to fix this is by using a Registry Cleaner and file cleaning applications.  Two programs that do a good job at accomplishing these tasks are:

  • Regcure (Cleans and Repairs Registry)
  • Paretologic Privacy Controls (Deletes, Erases, and Cleans Computer Files)

3. Install additional RAM

If you are running 128mb or 256mb of RAM, it’s not that expensive to upgrade to 1 gb. This does cost more money than the other suggestion, but it’s also the one that will improve performance the most.
Installing RAM is almost as easy as purchasing it.  I highly recommend you learn how to install RAM as it will take you probably fifteen minutes to learn and will save you $50+ if you paid to have it installed.  It’s really as simple as snapping the RAM into the proper place on the motherboard.

4. Remove Programs & files you no longer need or use

Having old games or other software you no longer use can take up a lot of space on your hard drive, which can lead to an overall decrease in your PC’s performance.

Removing old programs is easy. From the Control Panel click on the “Add or Remove Programs” Icon. You can safely remove programs like games, demos, and other software you no longer use. If you are not sure what a program is… don’t delete it just yet. You can do an internet search to find out more about any mystery programs installed on your PC to decide to delete them or not.

Remember: Mp3 music files and videos you download can take up a lot of space. Go through your media files once a month or so and delete the ones you no longer use.

5. Turn off Windows Animations and Visual Effects

Fancy sliding, fading and animated effects that windows uses by default are easily turned off, and will make the reaction time of simple tasks like opening and moving windows, taskbars, etc… much quicker.

To do this, from the Control Panel, click on the “System” icon. Click on the Advanced tab. Click the “Settings” button underneath “Performance”. Uncheck the options related to animations, and other unneeded visual effects.
6. Remove unused Fonts

Having too many fonts can realllllllly slow down how fast programs start up. It’s best to have no more than 500 fonts installed on Windows XP.  The less you have the faster your programs that use them (office software, graphic programs etc..) will load.

You can remove unwanted fonts from the Control Panel, click on the “Fonts” icon. From there you can delete the fonts you don’t use here. Remember of course to keep the basics: Verdana, Arial, Times, Trebuchet, Courier, serif, sans-serif, Georgia, etc… Along with any fonts related to your business.
7. Get a Virus, Spyware and Malware Clean System

Chances are you have some sort of virus, spyware, or malware on your computer. You can remove this by investing in some adware/spyware software that will scan your pc and remove any adware/spyware found.

If you implement these 7 techniques you will definitely have a faster computer!

Power Color

TUL Corporation released PowerColor PCS HD4850 2GB, the world’s first 2GB graphics card.

The power-packed chipset impressed both computer enthusiasts and the media during the company’s HD4800 campaign series.

The recently released graphics card is based on an RV770 core chip. It boasts 800 stream processors and 2GB or GDDR3 high-speed memory. Through this, the hardware is able to answer the requirements of the most intense 3D games and video animation.

PowerColor PCS HD4850 2GB allows the existence of an ultra fast memory bandwidth. It can fulfill the requests of high-end games and deliver high throughput for interactive visualizations. This is something that other graphics cards are unable to achieve currently.

Another breakthrough that comes with the new video card is the PowerColor PCS solution. This solution banks on a unique fan control technology that does automatic temperature detection. This means that the fan has the ability to respond to core temperature by adjusting its speed allowing for an even better graphics card performance and enjoyable HD experience.

Mac versus PC

I found this image on Digg and thought it was true and entertaining.  It’s also really the reason that PC Performance Tools was created.  If everything operated more smoothly and efficiently on Windows computers, there would be really very little need for this website.

I personally use both a Macbook Pro laptop and a Dell laptop.  In my eyes, they both have their advantages.  I know many feel that Macs are superior to PCs and in some ways they really are.   Leopard has a superior User Interface and has more features and functionality than Windows Vista.  However, Windows PCs run games that are either not available on Mac, or come out years later.

Anyhow, if Windows was a well oiled machine, PC Performance Tools wouldn’t exist.  So, for that reason and that reason only, I’m glad Windows operates like the car in the picture above!

Casio is about to release the thinnest wide-angle camera to date.
